Are You FOCUSED?

To start my blogging career, I think it's only appropriate to give this space a proper focus. Jesus! Who better? As the author and finisher of our faith, Jesus is the perfect starting point. The whole Bible points to Him and His greatness. Since the Bible dedicates so much time to Him, why don't Christians toady? Why are so many Christians struggling with their faith? I believe it is because of an improper focus. They are not looking where they are supposed to. They are concentrating on the wrong issues. They are taking too much stock in the wrong sources.

I once heard from an evangelist: "Watch what you continue to focus on because whatever you focus on, you give life to it. So diligently focus on the Word of God." The thoughts that dwell most prominently in us are the ones that come out. This is why it is so critical that as Christians the center of our focus is Jesus. Things that drag us away from God drag us down with them. Focusing on such will result in a negative downward spiral. Consider Proverbs 16:1-3.

To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.

2 All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.

3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. (Proverbs 16:1-3 NIV)

We are incredibly good at convincing ourselves. Give something enough thought without interruption and I bet you can convince yourself it's true. The second verse indicates as much. To us, all of our ways are pure. We intend to do well but often fall short. Romans 3:23 says that all sin and fall short of the glory of God. God alone is perfect and thank goodness He is. I cannot imagine someone coming to me all the time for every little problem. That would get old for me very fast. As Christians, though, we can be thankful that God is always listening and cares for us. He wants us to bring all of our problems to Him. A proper focus on Him will help us keep on His path for us. Without His involvement, we will go astray from His path. Through the next couple of weeks, I want to prioritize focusing on God. We focus on God by keeping in mind the acronym FOCUSED.
